On May 22nd, the third stage of the 18th China Xinjiang Tour of Sayram Lake (International) Road Cycling Race witnessed a fierce competition. This stage started from Shuanghe City and ended in Bole City, with a total distance of 95 kilometers. It was the longest stage of this year’s event and also the first climbing stage.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

This stage starts a gentle climbing section at the 8-kilometer mark. After 20 kilometers, the slope climbs to about 4% and continues until the highest point of the stage’s climb at the 47.5-kilometer mark, with an altitude of 1236 meters. After crossing the highest point, the track\u8fce\u6765 a continuous 20-kilometer long downhill. The intermediate sprint point set at the 68-kilometer mark is also a crucial strategic node in this race.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\nNote: “\u8fce\u6765” in the original text doesn’t have a very direct and simple equivalent in English that fits well in this context. The race started with a high-intensity confrontation. Just 3 kilometers after the start, a leading group of 7 riders broke away from the field. This group included excellent riders from multiple strong teams, namely Kong Wensheng and Mark Grinkevich from Fenghuang Finisher – Jichi Team, Chen Yien from Giant United Star Team, Yang Ruifeng from Wanjia Sports Team, Steven Manuel Cuesta Zamora from Senruimeng Wanjia Sports Rifa Team, Cao Chen from Xinjiang Xidesheng Team, Huang Jing from Xidesheng Team, and Eerha’er Adilijiang from Wenquan County Wild Yak Team.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

After entering the 8-kilometer gentle uphill section, this leading group of seven riders coordinated seamlessly. They continuously increased their speed through efficient rotation cycling, constantly widening the time gap with the large group behind and consolidating their leading advantage. When the race reached 15 kilometers, the riders in the large group behind began to exert themselves and chased the leading group ahead with all their might. The competition on the track became even more intense.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

When the race reached the 20 – kilometer mark, the large peloton behind initiated a strong pursuit mode. The riders of the Jingchuang – Power Box United Team took the lead at the front of the large peloton, gradually narrowing the gap. At the 25 – kilometer point, the small group of seven riders who had led in the early stage was successfully caught by the large peloton, and the situation on the racecourse was rewritten for the first time.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

After the merger of the groups, the competition on the track didn’t stop. Riders from all over continuously launched breakaway attacks. At the 48 – kilometer mark of the race, a new leading group of 10 riders was successfully formed. It included strong riders such as Hahelixi\u00b7Habudeli from the Jingchuang – Power Box United Team, ULADZISLAU YARASH from the Phoenix Fenix – Jichi Team, Xu Jiawei from the Sichuan Phoenix Fenix Team, and Huang Guanghong from the Xidesheng Team.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Meanwhile, Hu Zhichao, Ma Zequan, Zhang Weiyi, Chen Yien, Xu Xuanping and others formed the second echelon, closely following behind the core group. Three foreign riders from the Senrui Mengwanjia Sports Ruibao Team, as well as Gao Liang and Lin Bingyu from the Hubei delegation, also joined the second group.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

During the 68-kilometer mid-race sprint point competition, riders MORA RAMIREZ LUIS GUILLERMO, ULADZISLAU YARASH, and Shen Junxin took the first, second, and third places at this sprint point in sequence. After the sprint point, the first and second groups merged, and the race entered a stalemate again. After that, although many riders tried to break away and make a breakthrough several times, they were all intercepted by the well-defended large group and failed to widen the gap.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Three kilometers before the finish line, the race witnessed another reversal. Xu Jiawei, a 21-year-old young rider from the Sichuan Phoenix Fenice Team, seized the opportunity and\u679c\u65ad broke away from the large peloton to start a solo ride. At that time, the riders in the large peloton behind were focused on watching and restraining each other and did not effectively chase after Xu Jiawei, allowing him to lead alone for a long time and get closer and closer to the finish line.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Just when everyone thought the young rider was about to secure the victory, a stunning comeback unfolded. With just over a hundred meters to the finish line, Ma Zequan, a rider from the Dashishi Team, relied on his sharp sense on the track to precisely seize the perfect opportunity. He suddenly accelerated and broke away from the peloton. In the final dozens of meters before the finish line, he achieved an ultimate overtaking and powerfully reversed the situation to win the championship, putting a highly dramatic end to this race.<\/span><\/p>

Compared with the flat stages of the first two legs, the terrain of the third stage of this year’s Tour of Qinghai Lake is more complex, the competition is more intense, and the plot is full of twists and turns. Throughout the whole stage, there were many exciting scenes of breakaways, mergers, battles of attrition, and last – minute victories among the pelotons.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

In this race, many cyclists demonstrated excellent competitive states and sportsmanship: Ma Zequan, the champion, impressed everyone with his calm judgment on the track and the ability to secure a decisive victory with a single strike. The young rider Xu Jiawei showed the daring and sharpness of a youngster with his courageous solo breakaway, and his potential is promising, making his future performance on the track highly anticipated. Hu Zhichao, who suffered a rib fracture in the previous stage, continued to compete despite his injury,\u575a\u5b88\u8d5b\u573a (keep his position on the track), and fought whole – heartedly for the team, which perfectly exemplified the never – give – up sportsmanship. He is rightfully the “unsung fighter” of this race.<\/span><\/p><\/div>
